This list ranks the top 50 richest men and women in America by net worth according to Forbes Magazine's "Forbes 400" as of the October 6, 2008 issue. It takes 19 billion dollars to make the top ten "most wealthy" this year. Last year it "only" took $17 billion to make the 2007 top ten list. This year it takes $6.5 billion to make the top fifty richest men and women list. A billion dollars just doesn't go as far as it used to go!
