Dr. Weil’s Five Foods to Eat Every Day
- Cooked Asian Mushrooms –
Shitake mushrooms, Maitake mushrooms, Oyster mushrooms and Enoki
mushrooms, and eat an unlimited amount. Dr. Weil said it is very
important to COOK these . NEVER eat any mushroom raw as they are
indigestible. They are high in protein and Dr. Oz added they are
low in calories, like free food.
- Eat Whole Soy Foods: Dr Weil
said he is not talking about soy isolates or soy supplements, or food
spiked with soy soy derivatives. Eat Edamame, soy nuts, soy milk, tofu
and tempeh, these are whole unfractionated soy foods. These soy
foods are excellent sources of protein and they have great power to
protect us from hormonally driven cancers. Prostrate cancer in men and
breast cancer in women. Eat 1-2 servings of whole soy daily which one
serving equals 1 cup soy milk, or a half cup tofu or a few tablespoons
of soy nuts.
- Cruciferous vegetables from the cabbage
family. Red, green and purple cabbage, bok choy, cauliflower, kale and
brussels sprouts (List
of cruciferous vegetables). Eat cruciferous vegetables 4-5 servings
a day. These cruciferous vegetables have strong cancer protective
properties and compounds that protect our bodies in various ways.
He said eat all you want as the more you eat of them the better.
- Healthy Fats: "My favorite fat is
olive oil." "Some fats promote inflammation some fats protect you
from inflammation. Some fats are bad for the heart some fats protect
the heart. " 5 to 7 servings (teaspoons) per day. Hemp seeds &
Flaxseeds – Hemp seeds which have been cracked is a very good source of
good fats – omega 3 fatty acids. Flaxseeds have to be ground if you eat
them whole your body can’t digest them they just pass through. Whole
eggs are good fats in the yolk, some people only eat the egg whites
because they have been told egg yolks are bad for them says Weil. Dr Oz
and Dr Weil says whole eggs are fine in moderation which they say is 1
or 2 egs per day.
- Whole And Cracked Grains:
Eat 2-3 servings of whole grains a day. "Whole wheat bread is not a
whole grain food."
there is a big difference between whole grains & cracked grains and
pulverized grains. You grind grains into fine powder or flour you
increase the surface area for digestive enzymes to turn them into sugar
and they raise blood sugar levels quickly. Whole wheat bread is not a
whole grain food. Whole grain food is made where you can see the grain
or big pieces of grains and they are digested slowly, they don’t raise
blood sugar levels the way products made with flour do.
- Dr. Weil told Dr. Oz that pasta is a
special sort of carbohydrate, and if you don’t eat huge quantities and
you don’t cook it until it’s mushy it also digests slowly. So you don’t
have to have whole grain pasta, you can have good quality regular
pasta, just don’t cook it too much, slop on the butter or creams and
don’t eat double portions.
- To lose weight, cut out eating things with
sugar and flour. We like brown vs white rice.
